Windsor Police and Windsor Severance Fire Rescue Team Up for Community Education

Emergency supplies are set on a table

The week of Dec. 12, officers and firefighters from the Town of Windsor Police Department and Windsor Severance Fire Rescue (WSFR) will hit the pavement, going door-to-door, to provide emergency preparedness information to residents. In all, by the end of the effort, 850 homes will be visited.

The goal is to increase awareness around the topic of emergency preparedness, and to have more residents sign up for emergency notifications through CodeRED and NOCO Alert, as well as WSFR’s Community Connect. First responders are also hoping to encourage residents to update their emergency supply kit and verify whether their current homeowner insurance coverage is appropriate for the value of their property.

CodeRED is Weld County’s primary notification system and NoCo Alert is Larimer County’s primary notification system. Both can be used to alert mobile phones, landlines, email, and fax. To register for CodeRED, visit weld911alert.com. To register for NoCo Alert, visit NoCoAlert.org.

Community Connect helps residents securely upload specific information about their property, such as details about their home, family, pets, and medical and functional needs, which can assist firefighters before they arrive at an incident. For more information about Community Connect, visit wsfr.us/community-connect.

“Disaster preparedness needs to be a year-round effort,” said Town of Windsor Emergency Manager Bob Ball. “Our agencies’ boots on the ground effort is one of many ways we’re working to encourage residents to consider their risks. We want them to know that public safety should be a top priority and while we can’t predict where disaster will strike, we can prepare.”

Additional public education is planned throughout 2023.
